Harvesting Our Mint

We are harvesting this whole plant. We are doing that because we have permission and it was grown specifically to be harvested!

We are cutting the mint on the stem where there are fewer leaves growing. When you are taking the whole plant like this, you can cut it as close to the soil as you want! Ask you adult for help if you are

unsure about how short to cut your plant.

If you find a plant out in the wild remember to follow these rules!

This is the biggest rule to remember when you are foraging.

Hang your mint up!!

Now that you have cut down your mint stalks, it is time to dry them so we can make things with the dried leaves! Make small bundles of no more than 15 stems of mint and tie them together with twine, or string, or you can ask your adult for help to get the bundles tied up. Tie your stems together and then hang them from the ceiling or a hook on a the wall or a door for a few weeks until they are crispy dry!

Our next lesson will be on processing the mint we harvested!

Dont forget:

If a concept is confusing, rewatch the video, ask a friend, and then ask one of the teachers for further clarification if necessary.

New concepts are hard at first!
